Loma Portal has been recognized by the State of California for the Title I Academic Achievement Award. This award was established under the Federal mandate No Child Left Behind, which requires that all states receiving Title I funds establish a program recognizing Title I schools that exceed Adequate Yearly Progress for two or more years, or significantly close the achievement gap. In addition to these federal law requirements, California's program has been designed to identify and honor Title I schools that have also doubled their Academic Performance Index (API) growth target for two consecutive years, and that meet a designated median API score in both English-Language Arts and Mathematics.
As a result of this distinguished accomplishment, we have been encouraged to serve as a model for, and provide support to other schools, especially those Title I schools identified for Program Improvement. We were asked to submit a brief description of practices that have been significant in the academic success of students in the school. This information will be placed on the California Department of Education Web site with other high achieving schools. This is wonderful recognition for our Loma Portal Community, students, staff and parents, for our success in this very important work.
