Welcome Back Families!

Good afternoon LPE families and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break with your friends and families.  It was yet another interesting few weeks with all the rain and this new COVID variant wave. My hope is that you are all healthy and well rested as we had into the month of January and the mid-point of the school year. I acknowledge that the risk of spreading is high for this new COVID variant but I can assure you that we are doing everything we can to mitigate the spread of germs and keep our doors open. LPE is here for you and your child!  We will NOT be closing anytime soon.  I understand that some “off-season” sports have been cancelled/postponed at Point Loma High School but our school day here at Loma Portal has remain unchanged.  Our classes will continue to remain separate at all times (students in separate classrooms do not intermingle at all throughout the school day), masks are being worn diligently, classrooms are being disinfected regularly, and state/district Close Contact protocols are being followed closely. I will continue to keep you posted on any updates or changes but please continue to send your child to school (as long as they are symptom-free) and have confidence that our school will keep them safe. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].  As you know, I am always willing to support you and have no problem answering questions or finding someone who can get you an answer. SDUSD also has a COVID Status webpage (located HERE) with plenty of information.  Please stay well everyone and I am looking forward to getting through this together!  Please see below for some updates. –MM

PS – It was so nice to see your children back at school on Monday!  Our staff missed them!

  1. January is KINDNESS month! For these next 4 weeks, our students will focus on being good friends, making positive decisions, and being KIND to each other.  It should be a lot of fun! The month will culminate with our 4th annual Kindness Challenge (Jan 24-28).  More info to follow!
  2. Reminder: January 26th is a MINIMUM DAY.  School will dismiss at 12:35pm that day.
