Principal Update May 6, 2021

Thursday 5/6 Announcements

Good afternoon LPE families!  First and foremost, I would like to thank you all for making Teacher Appreciation Week such a success for our staff.  I know our teachers felt VERY appreciated all week.  Every morning, it was heartwarming to see so many students walking to campus carrying flower bouqets and boxes of chocolates!  So cute!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the Loma Portal LOVE. Also, please see below for our weekly updates.  Have a wonderful afternoon families!

1. I wanted to make you aware that we were notified that an individual at our school has tested positive for COVID-19. Due to procedures related to privacy laws, I am limited in what I can say. I urge you to also respect the privacy of our students and staff. However, it is essential that we share what we can to ensure anyone that may have been in contact with the individual is aware of his or her potential exposure and can self-quarantine and monitor any illness. Those close contacts have been notified.

We have cleaned and disinfected, as appropriate, and our campus has been deemed safe for occupancy by School and District leadership, in conjunction with public health officials.

Although you have not been identified as a close contact, out of transparency, we feel it is important to notify our community of this information. We want to use this as an opportunity to remind everyone to remain vigilant. As you know, virus symptoms can range from mild to severe and could include fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills without a fever, sore throat, muscle aches and pains, and temporary loss of smell or taste.  It should be emphasized that anyone who is ill should stay home except to get medical care.

I know this information is concerning. Please know that I am working with our District nursing team and San Diego County public health officials to continue to monitor the situation and we are strictly following all public health guidelines.  The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our primary focus.

Please read the letter HERE from our district's Nursing and Wellness department. Do not be alarmed but we have our first positive case of COVID 19 on our campus.  If your child is considered a "close contact" (a very limited number of students), our Nursing department has already spoken to you.  We will continue to be diligent in mitigating the spread of germs and I am confident that, if/when cases come up, we are prepared to contain the spread of the virus.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

2. Our FINAL SSC and SGT meeting of the year will be tomorrow 5/7/2021 (via Zoom).  The agenda can be found HERE. These meetings are open to the public.  Please respond to this email if you would like to join us!

3.  If you are interested in having your child take part in the new SDUSD Summer program, "Level Up San Diego", please add your name to the email list HERE.  Open enrollment begins in late May.
