February Updates

Good morning Loma Portal families! I hope you are all having a positive week and that our LP students are enjoying another week full of learning. Please see below for some February reminders and updates. Have a wonderful week everyone!

1. All SDUSD schools obviously continue to remain mostly closed due to the COVID pandemic.  I know our staff and I would love nothing more than to be back on campus with your children.  Please know that I understand how difficult this situation has been on our family members and staff and I appreciate everything you are all doing to support our learners.  Please remember to take care of each other, stay healthy, and stay POSITIVE. Together we can all achieve great things!  A common request I have had from parents is for there to be more district communication.  In an effort to address this very valid concern and to be as transparent as possible with you all, I am including some resources below. The first are the links to the SDUSD website’s “COVID FAQ” and “Where We Are” pages.  Both of these have some interesting information regarding our current state as a district and county.  Please take a look.  In addition, I have scheduled our next LPE Principal’s Coffee for 2/9 at 9:30am.  At this event, I will present some of the information I have regarding COVID and school reopening.  I will also be there for you in case any of you have any questions.  The very least I can do for our amazing community is to be there to support you all and try to answer your questions. : )  I plan on recording this event in case you are unable to attend.  All of these links are below.

2. February is Black History Month!  This a month to celebrate the achievements of African Americans and to recognize the central role they have played in U.S. history. SDUSD has put together several resources for our staff and I wanted to include our community as well.  All of these resources can be found HERE.

3. Very exciting news....Each year, all SDUSD schools vote for their site's Teacher of the Year nominee.  The Teacher of the Year award is given to a staff member who exhibits exceptional work ethic, community-building skills, and passion for the education of our youth.  This year's Loma Portal Teacher of the Year award will be going to KELLY MAGAUDDA!!  Congratulations Mrs. Magaudda!  Very well deserved! Mrs. Magaudda will be honred at a district-wide ceremony during Teacher Appreciation in May. More information to follow.

4. Please remember that all schools will be closed February 12th-15th in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.

5. Many thanks to those of you who were able to attend our last SSC and SGT meeting!  Please remember that all agendas and minutes for our monthly SSC and SGT meetings can be found on our website HERE. These meetings are open to the public.
