Principal Update April 9, 2021

Family Handbook

Good afternoon LPE families! I am very excited to say that this is our LAST afternoon here at Loma Portal without students! At long last, we will be opening our doors to students on Monday April 12th. I cannot express in words the excitement I have seen on our campus these last few days as our outstanding staff has been busily preparing for the arrival of their students. We have worked hard to make our campus bright, vibrant, and SAFE for our students! I would like to send you all a huge THANK YOU for all of the work our wonderful families and community members have done to ensure each of our students has continued to learn from home since March 2020. We greatly appreciate what you have all done for your child and for our school. Thank you for supporting us!

On behalf of our outstanding educators, incredible support staff, and our administrative team, I am thrilled to share with you the details of our plans for our campus reopening on April 12th. I am equally proud of the work our team has done to maintain a robust online option for families who have chosen that option. No matter the model, we are determined to help each and every student finish the academic year feeling strong and excited about their future.

Below is a Family Handbook, which contains a GREAT DEAL of information about our reopening plan. Please take these next two days to read through it thoroughly. As always, let me know if you have any questions. I am looking forward to seeing many of you on Monday!

Some highlights from the LP Family Handbook:

  1. Gates open at 8:15am Monday-Thursday. Unfortunately, parents are not permitted on campus at this time. Please give your hugs and say your good byes off campus so we can avoid large crowds. Thanks you families! We will guide your child to their line up area.
  2. On campus learning will occur Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-2:30pm. On Fridays, students will learn from home. Teachers will provide at least 30 minutes of synchronous teaching on Fridays. Asynchronous work will be assigned for the remainder of the day.
  3. Masks are 100% mandatory and students will need to remain 6 feet away from each other at ALL times. Mask breaks will be available for students through the day.
  4. If your child is returning to campus, on Monday, we will need a completed Acknowledgement of On Site School Instruction Form. This should be turned in just ONCE.
  5. If your child is returning to campus, we also need a completed Daily COVID Symptoms Checklist DAILY. We will have extras available near our flagpole in front of our school. This should be turned in DAILY. Without this form, your child may not be permitted on campus.
  6. Students in Grades 1-4 must bring a FULLY CHARGED computer and charger with them to school every day.
  7. Cafeteria lunches will be available to ALL students free of charge. This is optional. Students may also bring in a lunch from home. Grab and Go snack bags will also be available to ALL students as they leave campus in the afternoon.
