Useful Links

*Achieve the Core: there are lessons and writing samples.

*Newsela: this is an amazing site. It has current news articles, but the cool feature is that you can change the reading level by adjusting the lexile level on each article. You will have to register (it's free) and create an account, but it seems really, really cool. There's also an online "binder" where you can save articles to access later.

*Readworks: we heard of this site from a 5th grade ELA teacher at Dana Middle School. What a cool site, filled with lessons and news articles that are all aligned to CCSS. Again, you'll have to register and create an account, but you'll be able to save different articles to your "binder" so you can access them at a later date.

*San Diego Unified School District's Toolbox for English Language Arts: Everything the District wants you to have. Includes sample units. Here's the resources page. Pretty extensive. Nice job, SDUSD!

*TweenTribute Junior: Another free site. On the right side of the page you can click your grade level to find appropriate texts.

*KidsPost: The kids' section of the Washington Post. Good articles.

*Children and Youth in History: OMG! This is awesome! I could just read the stuff for hours! TONS of primary source materials (great for 4th grade Anchor Standard 6 for 4th grade). Really interesting read for adults, too.

*LearnZillion: This amazing website has a gazillion videos to help in the classroom, but they've also got appropriate texts attached to the videos. And, they've developed kick-butt assessments to go along with the units. Obviously, you can use the texts and not use the videos.
