Arrival & Departure

Staff supervision of students begins at 8:00 a.m. For safety reasons, no students are to arrive at school before 8:00 a.m. except for those children in Klassic Kids program or who have breakfast in the cafeteria beginning at 7:50 a.m.

Student Drop Off

Adults delivering children to school should leave them off at Kindergarten Area for TK/K or Upper level blacktop for grades 1-4. Drop off from vehicles permitted only along Browning Street in front of school (not in school bus zone). Parking is prohibited in the red curb areas. Please be aware of crosswalks and stop signs for the safety of our students and families!

Kindergarten: Parents, please walk students directly to their classrooms. Following drop-off, parents should leave campus.
Grades 1-4: All students are to go directly to the cafeteria area for breakfast or to the blacktop to line up. Students are not to go to their classrooms for any reason. Supervision is provided in the cafeteria area, the blacktop area, and various high traffic points on campus. Parents, please do not follow students to their classroom after drop off. For our students' sense of independence, leave them at the blacktop.

Bicycles

The San Diego Police Department requests that only students in Grade 3 and above ride bicycles to school by themselves (all of ther students require parent supervision). Although the school has designated an area inside the gate on the blacktop behind the Bungalows (near the parking lot) for students to park bicycles, the San Diego Unified School District is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of use to any bicycle, equipment or article left in or around this area. All such risk is assumed by the student.

All bicycles should have locks and licenses. Students are urged to secure their bicycles in an appropriate manner by using a quality lock and chain or other devices.

Helmets are required by California law. Students not wearing helmets may lose the privilege of parking a bike on school grounds. As defined in Vehicle Code Section 21212, any person under 18 years of age must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or when wearing in-line or roller skates. Helmets must also meet the standards of either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Dismissal

Students are dismissed promptly at 2:40 p.m. (12:35 p.m. on Thursdays) and should leave campus immediately upon dismissal. For safety reasons, our campus will be closed at 3:00pm (12:55pm on Thursdays).

Student Pick Up

Please meet your child outside their classroom or at the Flagpole curb along Browning. The front curb is painted white for 3 minute stopping. Signs are posted to assist you. Cars are not to enter the parking lot at any time between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The school"s main concern is for the health and safety of your children.

Specific dismissal procedures vary by grade level, as indicated below:

Kindergarten: Students are dismissed from the classroom area by their teacher upon seeing a responsible adult or older sibling. Older siblings must come to the Kindergarten yard to pick up younger siblings.
Grades 1-4: Teachers dismiss students from the classroom and they are to leave campus via the front entrance or Kindergarten gate. If they are responsible for a younger student, they must go to the front of school or the Kindergarten yard to pick them up and then promptly head home.
Klassic Kids Extended Day Program Students: All Klassic Kids day care program students are dismissed from their classrooms and sent to Klassic Kids room for check in. Kindergarten students are picked up at their classrooms by a Klassic Kids staff member.

If you are more than 10 minutes late to pick up a student, please go to the front office. You may be asked to provide identification.
