Welcome to 2022-2023!
Good afternoon Loma Portal families and welcome to anothier wonderful year at LPE! In case you are a new family, my name is Mark Morici and I have the privilege of being the Principal here at LPE.I couldn’t be happier to welcome everyone back for another fun school year. Again, for those new folks out there, here is a little bit about me….
This is my 6th year here at Loma Portal (such an amazing place!) but before that, I was a Vice Principal at EB Scripps Elementary School in Scripps Ranch for 4 years and I was a teacher at nearby Dana Middle School for 8 years. I have 2 amazing children…my daughter is in 3rd grade and my son is now in 7th grade, and I just celebrated my 15th anniversary with my wonderful wife, Catie. My hobbies include exercising, surfing, and coaching baseball. I grew up in New York City so I’m also a huge NY sports fan (although I like the Padres a little too!). I am a “hands on” type of administrator who loves spending time with kids and parents so you will see me around campus quite a bit! I am excited to get this school year going!
I wanted to update you on some things so please see below. More info will be going out shortly so please continue to monitor your emails. See you all soon!
- First and foremost, our FAMILY HANDBOOK is a one stop shop for tons of information and procedures including entry/exit procedures, health policies, bell schedules, and more. Please check it regularly. It will be posted on our website also.
- Our school website (https://lomaportal.sandiegounified.org/) is also a great place to find updated information about our school.
- Mask wearing for all students, staff, and visitors, will be OPTIONAL to start the school year. This may change depending on COVID numbers.
- The first day of school is Monday August 29th! Campus will open at 8am. Make sure to get here early for the RED CARPET under the Loma Portal arch! Great photo op!
- Campus will open at 8am daily. Do not drop your child off any earlier since there is no campus supervision on duty until 8am. Please plan on arriving early or walking since parking is limited. Parents will be allowed on campus daily in the morning to support students in getting lined up. UTK students/parents may proceed directly to the classroom each morning. Students/parents in Grades K-4 may proceed to the upper blacktop area to line up by class. Parents will need to remain there and are unable to follow students to their classroom.
- Campus will remain closed in the afternoon for safety reasons and students will be walked out to designated locations at dismissal daily (*exception….parents of UTK and Kindergarten students may pick up their child directly from their classroom). Check the Family Handbook for details.
- Breakfast and Lunch from our school cafeteria will continue to be FREE daily. Breakfast will be served daily at 8am.
