Principal Update Jan 22, 2021

Friday Updates

Good morning Loma Portal families and Happy Friday!! I hope your children had another positive week of online learning! As we all continue to reflect upon this pandemic and its effects on the school year, I wanted to start off by letting you know how much I appreciate the hard work and partnership I have witnessed this year from our amazing staff, families, and community members.  LPE has always been blessed with a great deal of community involvement but this year has obviously been unique in the amount of support you have all provided for your child.  We thank you for your partnership with us as we focus on the needs and safety of our learners, staff, and community. Remember to take care of each other, stay healthy, and stay positive!  My pledge to you is that the Loma Portal team and I will work with you all with an attitude of kindness, perseverance, and love as we continue our journey through the 2020-2021 school year.  Please see below for some updates and info.  Have a great weekend! --MM

  1. Congratulations to our very own Superintendent Cindy Marten for being nominated to be the United States Deputy Secretary of Education!  We are so incredibly happy and proud of Mrs. Marten and her many accomplishments in service of our students, staff, and families! We wish her the very best of luck in the future.  Our Interim Superintendent will be Mr. Lamont Jackson who has served SDUSD as an educator, Principal, and Area Superintendent for years.
  2. As you all have heard, our school will remain closed and all learning will take place virtually for the foreseeable future. I know we are ALL hopeful that school will reopen in some capacity soon but we will need to continue waiting until our state, county, and district deem it safe to do so.  Please continue to monitor your email for future updates.
  3. LPE’s Annual KINDNESS WEEK – next week is National Kindness Week and as always, LPE will be a full participant! Throughout the week, we will be focusing more than ever on having a kind mindset and caring for ourselves and others.  Please see below for a rundown of the entire week and our SPIRIT Days.  Many thanks to our Guidance Assistant, Mindy Cannon for putting this together! Let's see some extra KINDNESS out there next week!

  1. In preparation for our district’s 2021-22 budget development, SDUSD is requesting your input regarding the needs of our school that will help inform future budgeting conversations and decision-making processes. Our school will use information from this “Needs Assessment” to develop budgets and strategies for the 2021-22 school year. You can find the link below.  All surveys received will be anonymous and confidential. The School Site Council will review priorities to determine the final distribution of funding. Thank you for taking the time to offer your input!
