Volunteer Information
Volunteering is a great way to support our school.
There are four categories of Volunteer Clearance:

Category A-Visitors: Visitors do not need screening, for example, attending an assembly or other event, or viewing your child's performance. This DOES NOT require a volunteer application.

Category B: Is for volunteers who will work with students while under the supervision of school staff. In addition to volunteering in a classroom, this would include noon duty support and library time assistance. This requires a volunteer application and TB clearance. A TB clearance can be a negative test or a TB Risk Assessment completed by a medical professional (please see below for the TB Risk Assessment form). TB tests and Risk Assessments are usually good for four years. Our school nurse, Ms. Elkind, is available most Tuesdays to do a risk assessment. An appointment is not necessary. Category B volunteers are screened on the Megan's Law website.

Category C: These are volunteers who will be alone with students ON CAMPUS. For example, working with a group of students outside the classroom, or one on one reading tutoring (our Everyone a Reader Program). This requires items included in Category B, plus a completed SDUSD School Police Screening Request form and a Certificate of Completion of the Mandatory Reporting training (a state requirement as of January 2026).

Category D & Returning Category D: These are volunteers who are unsupervised by school personnel with students OFF Campus, such as the zoo or Sea World. An example would be, field trip chaperones independently responsible for a small group of students who are not their own. This requires all items in Category C, and completion of LiveScan fingerprinting. Once a LiveScan has been completed and cleared, all Returning Category D volunteers will need only to submit the SDUSD School Police Screening Request. Provided there is no break in volunteer service each school year, re-fingerprinting will not be necessary. If there has been a break in service, re-fingerprinting may be necssary.

Please note, volunteer forms must be submitted to our front office annually. Additionally, copies of state identification cards (ID or driver's license) will be required for all Category C and D volunteers for district processing. If a returning volunteer has previously provided a copy please check with our Volunteer Coordinator, Ms. Tauni, to verify a new one isn't necessary.
